Timothy's previous work and training spans a variety of genres, working at a variety of levels. He trained under the well-known choral arranger Michael Neaum, and also Anthea Cator at Clarendon College. He has taught at University College Bretton Hall, as well as spending a number of years running his own teaching practice. He now works as a choral leader, with a number of different groups - his own network of community choirs (BeVox), The Workplace Choir Company, and as a freelance workshop leader and motivational speaker.

Past work has included training the choirs for The Night of 1000 Voices™ at The Royal Albert Hall under Hugh Wooldridge, guest musical director for Jane McDonald's UK tour, musical consultancy for the The Rodillian Singers and the Nottingham Socialist Choir, and using choral singing as a leadership training tool with LaFarge Tarmac.

In 2019, Timothy formed the Choir Leaders' Choir, an ad hoc group of leaders of other choirs who come together to sing for fun.

He lives in Yorkshire with his wife Toni.
